Miami University Student Named 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar
Mia Gordon, named 2022 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar. Gordon, a senior on the Miami University field hockey team from Reisterstown, Md. is among the honorees. Gordon is a Bridges Scholar Mentor at Miami University and majors in both Strategic Communications and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies while boasting an impressive 3.9 GPA. She was instrumental in organizing the field hockey team initiative to create a digital media library of books, websites and movies as an education resource on race and social justice for their team and others within Miami Athletics. Additionally, Gordon is heavily involved with a variety of committees including RedHawk Council and Miami Athletics' DE&I Council. She has also been a member of the Black Field Hockey Network aimed at increasing diversity in the game.

Miami University Students Earn Goldwater Scholarship
Miami University juniors Evan Danielson and Zoe Platow have each received a Goldwater Scholarship for 2022-2023. They are among 417 students nationwide to receive the scholarship, the premier undergraduate award for students intending a research career in mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. Danielson is a Chemical Engineering and Music Performance double major from Oxford, Ohio. Platow is a Biochemistry and Psychology double major and neuroscience co-major from Harleysville, Pennsylvania. They are both involved in undergraduate research at Miami.

Miami University Student Awarded Prestigious Astronaut Scholarship
Miami University senior Hope Kirby, a microbiology major from Glendale Arizona, has been awarded a scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF). She is one of 60 students from 44 universities to receive the award for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Astronaut Scholarship is among the most significant merit-based monetary scholarships awarded to undergraduate STEM juniors and seniors who intend to pursue research or advance their field upon completion of their final degree.

Miami Student Earn Goldwater Scholarship
Miami University junior Ethan Klein has been named a Goldwater Scholar for 2021-2022. He is among 410 students nationwide to receive the scholarship, the premiere undergraduate award of its type in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Klein, from Stevenson Ranch, California, is one of seven students from an Ohio public university to receive the award. He is a geology major with an environmental science co-major, pursuing a certificate in geographic information science.
