Miami University juniors Evan Danielson and Zoe Platow have each received a Goldwater Scholarship for 2022-2023. They are among 417 students nationwide to receive the scholarship, the premier undergraduate award for students intending a research career in mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. Danielson is a Chemical Engineering and Music Performance double major from Oxford, Ohio. Platow is a Biochemistry and Psychology double major and neuroscience co-major from Harleysville, Pennsylvania. They are both involved in undergraduate research at Miami.

Miami Student Earn Goldwater Scholarship
Miami University junior Ethan Klein has been named a Goldwater Scholar for 2021-2022. He is among 410 students nationwide to receive the scholarship, the premiere undergraduate award of its type in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Klein, from Stevenson Ranch, California, is one of seven students from an Ohio public university to receive the award. He is a geology major with an environmental science co-major, pursuing a certificate in geographic information science.

Miami University juniors Alexandra (Lexie) Adams and Hope Kirby have each received a Goldwater Scholarship for 2020-2021. They are among 396 students nationwide to receive the scholarship, the premier undergraduate award of its type in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Adams is a chemical engineering major and Spanish minor from Liberty Township. Kirby is a microbiology major and geology and bioinformatics double minor from Glendale, Arizona. They are two of 13 students from an Ohio public university to receive the award. The Goldwater Foundation Scholarship Program encourages outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering, Nationwide, faculty nominated 1,343 students - from a pool of more than 5,000 - for the scholarship, worth up to $7,500 per year.

Miami University Students Named Gilman Scholars
Six Miami University students have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships to help fund their study abroad experiences this spring and summer. The combined total awarded to these students is $28,500. Recipients of the Gilman Scholarship represent 307 colleges and universities across the United States who will study or intern in 87 countries through the end of 2021. Fewer than 1000 scholarships were awarded nationwide.

Twelve extremely accomplished first-year students from across the country and around the world comprise Miami University's inaugural class of the Presidential Fellows Program. Miami University's premier scholarship, the Presidential Fellows Program offers recipients a merit award to cover tuition, fees, room and board. Students also will receive a one-time academic enhancement fund of $5,000 for activities such as study abroad or professional conferences.

Miami University Student Awarded Nancy F. Walker Scholarship
Trumpeter, Charlie Gately of Hamilton, Ohio won second place ($5,000) in the Collegiate Instrumental category of the 2019 Nancy F. Walker Memorial Scholarship Competition. A junior at Miami University Oxford, his teacher is Doug Lindsay. Gately will attend the Chautauqua Institute this summer and pursue a Master's degree in performance. He aspires to be a professional musician and trumpet teacher. To expand its longtime mission to advance the careers of young instrumentalists and singers, Matinee Musicale, a non-profit organization, organizes an annual competition for area high school and college juniors and seniors. A total of fifty students participated this year. Judging the instrumental competitors were Carmon DeLeone (Music Director of Cincinnati Ballet), Dr. Polina Bespalko (Professor and Coordinator of Keyboard area at Xavier University) and Dale Swisher (retired director of both the Xavier University Chamber Orchestra and the Anderson High School Orchestra). Gately, along with the other top scholarship recipients in each category, will perform at the Matinee Musicale Scholarship Winners Recital & Luncheon at the Greenacres Arts Center.
