A Miami University senior in the Department Social and Behavioral Sciences has been named a Charles J. Ping Student Service Award Winner for 2023 by Campus Compact Ohio. This award was created to recognize and honor undergraduate students for their outstanding leadership and contributions to community service and/or service-learning on their campus and within their community. Thirteen students from across the state of Ohio are receiving this honor with two students being recipients of the Legacy Award and $250 being donated to a non-profit organization of their choice. Each outstanding student nominated for this recognition embodies the mission of Ohio Campus Compact by contributing to the civic and community engagement of students on their campuses and active involvement in the community.

Miami University senior named to list of top 2022 architecture and interior design graduates
A Miami University senior in the Department of Architecture + Interior Design at Miami University has been named to the Metropolis Future 100 list of the top architecture and interior design graduates of the class of 2022. Started in 2021 by Metropolis magazine, the list recognizes 50 architecture and 50 interior design students nominated by their instructors and mentors for their outstanding leadership, design, and advocacy for equity and inclusion.

Miami University Student Named 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar
Mia Gordon, named 2022 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar. Gordon, a senior on the Miami University field hockey team from Reisterstown, Md. is among the honorees. Gordon is a Bridges Scholar Mentor at Miami University and majors in both Strategic Communications and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies while boasting an impressive 3.9 GPA. She was instrumental in organizing the field hockey team initiative to create a digital media library of books, websites and movies as an education resource on race and social justice for their team and others within Miami Athletics. Additionally, Gordon is heavily involved with a variety of committees including RedHawk Council and Miami Athletics' DE&I Council. She has also been a member of the Black Field Hockey Network aimed at increasing diversity in the game.

Miami Students Named Best and Brightest Business Majors of 2020
Two Farmer School students have been named to Poets and Quants for Undergrad's list of Best and Brightest Business Majors of 2020. Finance major J'Quaan Waite and marketing major Laura Mena are among the 100 students selected nationwide. P&Q described the selected students as "seniors who differentiated themselves through their academic excellence, extracurricular leadership, innate potential, and personal character these forces of nature are always there for others, to lend help and lead by example. In the end, they are the students who'll be remembered, the ones who left their schools better than they found them."

Miami University Student recipient of YWCA Young Women of Tomorrow Award
The 23rd annual Women of Excellence awards luncheon, presented by the YWCA of Piqua, was held on Thursday at the Piqua Country Club, during which Deb Oexmann, Lorna Swisher, and Cassidy Hemm were honored. Both Oexmann and Swisher were named 2019 Women of Excellence, and Cassidy Hemm was named the 2019 Young Woman of Tomorrow. The awards were presented by Women of Excellence Committee member Terry Naas, who shared details about each woman's life and dedication to their work.

Miami University Student Receives 2019 AHEAD Student Recognition Award
Megan Zahneis received the 2019 AHEAD Student Recognition Award on July 13 at the organization's annual conference in Boston. AHEAD, The Association for Higher Education and Disability, is the leading voice for higher education professionals invested in creating welcoming higher education experiences for disabled individuals. Zahneis helped establish the Students with Disabilities Advisory Council (SDAC), a campus voice for students with disabilities, by students with disabilities. Under Zahneis' leadership, SDAC has become a force of nature on campus. They've held large-scale campus-wide events drawing large crowds. They've developed a one-on-one mentoring program that pairs new students with another member of the disability community on campus. They've developed resources and presentations that have been highlighted on a national scale. Their signature program, Coffee & Conversations, is designed for students with disabilities to share their experiences and engage in conversation with Miami faculty members. The series is just one example of SDAC's dedication to fulfilling the promise in their slogan "Changing Perceptions, One Conversation at a Time."
