Miami University

The National Field Hockey Coaches' Association announced the 2018 Division I National Academic Squad on Wednesday. Miami led the country with 21 National Academic Squad selections. The Division I National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.

Five members of Miami University's softball team have earned the MAC Commissioner's Award. MAC Commissioner's Award is awarded to those student-athletes who have achieved a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA at the end of two semesters or three quarters. First year and graduating seniors are not eligible for this award. Transfer student-athletes may complete one full academic year prior to be eligible.

Miami University Student-Athletes Jenny Vasquez and Johniann Wahl earn MAC Presidential Award MAC Presidential Award is awarded to those graduating senior student-athletes who have achieved a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility are also eligible for this award. This award can only be awarded once in the career of a student-athlete. Transfer student-athletes must complete one full academic year prior to be eligible.

The Ohio Council for the Social Studies announce Maria Kahn's selection as a 2018 Jim Sheehan Award Winner. Kahn was strongly recommended by her Miami social studies methods professor. The Dr. James Sheehan Pre-Service Social Studies Teacher Award Winner was established in memory of OCSS Executive Director, Jim Sheehan, who promoted undergraduate participation in the professional organization. This award honors outstanding social studies university students that have demonstrated excellence in teaching and have great potential in the social studies classroom. As a recipient of the award Kahn receives a complimentary one year's membership in OCSS, an award certificate, and recognition at the Awards Luncheon at the 2018 Annual Conference on Tuesday, October 16th.
