Springfield, Ore., resident Allison Beard receives master's degree from Miami University through Project Dragonfly

Springfield, Ore., resident Allison Beard will graduate with a Master of Arts in Zoology from Miami University on Dec. 12, 2014, from Project Dragonfly's Global Field Program at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Beard works as a program facilitator at the City of Eugene Outdoor Recreation.

The Global Field Program (GFP) from Miami University's Project Dragonfly brings together master's degree candidates, scientists, educators and community leaders at key conservation sites across the globe for firsthand experience with inquiry-driven education, environmental stewardship and global understanding.

Since joining the master's program in 2012, Beard has explored conservation and education in Belize, Mongolia and the Amazon, while also conducting projects that have made a difference in the Springfield area.

The global courses, which count toward the GFP master's or can be taken for graduate credit, are designed for educators and other professionals from all disciplines and settings interested in making a difference in human and ecological communities. Applicants can be from anywhere in the United States or abroad. More information about the GFP master's degree is located at http://gfp.miamioh.edu/.

Project Dragonfly reaches millions of people each year through inquiry-driven learning media, public exhibits and graduate programs worldwide. Since 2004 Dragonfly's Earth Expeditions program has engaged more than 1,700 people in firsthand educational and scientific research at critical conservation field sites in Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas. Dragonfly is based in the Department of Biology at Miami University, a state university in Oxford, Ohio. Miami was established in 1809 and is listed as one of the eight original Public Ivies.
