2015 Apr 8

Bothell, Wash. resident Sarah Crumb from Miami University's Project Dragonfly has published an original work entitled "The Role of Zoo Playgrounds: Beyond Playtime & into Conservation Awareness." In her article, Crumb looked at how playgrounds in a zoo setting provide children with an opportunity to explore outside and encourage a sense of environmental awareness and inspire a conservation ethic . The article appeared in IZE Journal, which publishes original work about conservation, interpretation and zoo education and is a publication of the International Zoo Educators Association.

Crumb, a zookeeper and exhibit attendant at Woodland Park Zoo, is a current master's student at Miami University. As a student in the Advanced Inquiry Program (AIP), Crumb takes courses onsite at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle while sharing ideas with peers and instructors nationwide via web-based learning communities.

The community-based AIP master's degree is co-delivered by Miami's Dragonfly and Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited premier learning institutions in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, New York, Phoenix, San Diego and Seattle.
