Rebecca Weaver earns master's degree from Miami University through Project Dragonfly

2016 Jun 29

Castalia, Ohio, resident Rebecca Weaver has earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Zoology from Miami University through Project Dragonfly's Global Field Program (GFP).

Since being accepted to the GFP master's degree in 2013, Weaver has explored conservation and education in Belize, Mongolia and Guyana, while also conducting projects that have made a difference in the Castalia area. Weaver works as a protected species observer at RPS Group.

The global courses, which count toward the GFP master's or can be taken for stand-alone graduate credit, are designed for educators and other professionals from all disciplines and settings interested in making a difference in human and ecological communities. Because the degree occurs overseas and in web-based learning communities, applicants can be located anywhere in the United States or abroad.

Since 2004 Dragonfly and its U.S. and international partner institutions have engaged more than 1,850 people in firsthand education and conservation research in communities and zoos throughout the country and at critical field sites in Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas.

Project Dragonfly reaches millions of people each year through inquiry-driven learning media, public exhibits and graduate programs worldwide. Dragonfly is based in the department of biology at Miami University, a state university in Oxford, Ohio. Miami was established in 1809 and is listed as one of the eight original Public Ivies.
