Project Dragonfly student Sophie Williams awarded scholarship from Miami University's Global Initiatives to travel to Guyana

Durham, N.C. (27713) resident Sophie Williams was awarded the Summer Credit Workshop Study Abroad Scholarship from Miami University's Global Initiatives office to help fund travel on a summer 2014 Earth Expeditions course. Williams, who is an assistant director of communications at the North Carolina School of Science and Math and a Miami master's student, will travel to Guyana in summer 2014 to study local wisdom and conservation.

Since the program began 10 years ago, Earth Expeditions graduate courses from Miami University's Project Dragonfly have engaged more than 1,500 people in firsthand educational and scientific research at key conservation field sites in Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas.

Miami's Global Initiatives office supports the university's global teaching, outreach and research missions. Global Initiatives supports and encourages Miami's commitment to dynamic and comprehensive internationalization resulting in a diverse cultural and global learning experience for students.
