Miami University student William Smeal Named Semi-Finalist in Fulbright Competition

Miami University student William Smeal was named a semi-finalist in the 2016-2017 Fulbright U.S. Student grant competition.

The scholarship, which provides round-trip travel, maintenance allowance and research allowance, is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The William J. Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board provides guidance throughout the process and the program is sponsored by the United States Information Agency.

Smeal applied for the English Teaching Assistant to take place in Bulgaria.

Miami has had recipients of Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants every year since 2005, including four students last year.

Smeal is one of eight Miami students or recent graduates to be named a semi-finalist.

Smeal, from Cincinnati, is earning a Bachelor of Art majoring in Spanish, Linguistics.
