Miami University's Alex Baker Attends Model UN

Alex Baker of Springfield (65804) received an outstanding delegate award at the 18th annual Lake Erie International Model United Nations (LEIMUN) Conference in Cleveland.

Baker is a junior political science and international studies major at Miami University and a member of the Miami University Model United Nations (MUMUN) team, which received first place at the conference.

Through modeling the United Nations, LEIMUN encourages knowledge of international affairs, understanding of parliamentary procedure, analytical reasoning, problem solving, negotiation, presentation and professionalism while promoting awareness, understanding, tolerance and acceptance.

According to MUMUN president Peter Dougherty, the team has placed 1st at the LEIMUN conference four of the past five years. At this year's conference, nine of Miami's 30 conference delegates were recognized as outstanding or superior delegates.

Miami University Model United Nations was founded in 2002 and participates in several conferences each year. The team is sponsored by the center for American and world cultures, the college of arts and sciences, The Havighurst Center for Russian & Post-Soviet Studies, the interdisciplinary studies department, the western college program, the international studies department and the women's center.
