Miami University Student Kayla Orta Awarded Prestigious Boren Scholarship

Miami University student Kayla Orta has awarded the prestigious Boren Scholarship.

She was selected as a recipient of the National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Scholarship for international study. Orta used the $20,000 scholarship to support her semester abroad in South Korea.

Orta was one of 161 recipients from among 947 applicants nationwide for the Boren Scholarship. The scholarships provide American undergraduate students with resources and encouragement to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to U.S. national security, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government. Miami University has had only six other Boren Scholarship recipients and two alternates since 2000.

Orta is from Warrenton. She's earning her Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Individualized Studies.
