Miami University Student Joseph Banks Spends Spring Break Sharing Research with Legislators

2012 Mar 5

Joseph Banks, a freshman majoring in computer science and software engineering at Miami University, is spending part of his spring break, March 5-9, sharing his research with national legislators in Washington, DC.

Banks, of Columbus, OH (43085), is one of 12 students representing Miami University's Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship at a "Posters on the Hill" event. Banks will give a poster presentation on "Project High Flight," a group developing and demonstrating a capability to fly remote-controlled long-duration high altitude balloon missions to "near space" lasting a year or more.

During the day, Banks will spend his time in Capital Hill office visits and in the evening the students will present their posters to federal funding agencies and to congressional staff and delegates.

Banks is mentored by Robert Setlock, faculty member in Miami's mechanical and manufacturing engineering department.
