Miami University Student Elizabeth Beumel Spends Spring Break Sharing Research with Legislators

2012 Mar 5

Elizabeth Beumel, a sophomore majoring in chemical engineering at Miami University, is spending part of her spring break, March 5-9, sharing her research with national legislators in Washington, DC.

Beumel, of Washington, DC (20016), is one of 12 students representing Miami University's Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship at a "Posters on the Hill" event. Beumel will give a poster presentation on "Project High Flight," a group developing and demonstrating a capability to fly remote-controlled long-duration high altitude balloon missions to "near space" lasting a year or more.

During the day, Beumel will spend her time in Capital Hill office visits and in the evening the students will present their posters to federal funding agencies and to congressional staff and delegates.

Beumel is mentored by Robert Setlock, faculty member in Miami's mechanical and manufacturing engineering department.
