Miami University RedHawk Martha Szekely Shatters School Record

2017 May 3

Miami University student-athlete Martha Szekely blew past the school record in the hammer throw in the Penn Relays.

The senior thrower for the Miami track and field program launched her second throw 198-6, a distance that placed her fifth at the prestigious meet and moved her atop the Mid-American Conference standings in the event. Furthermore, her mark is over five feet better than the previous school record of 193-7 set in 2003.

Szekely is earning a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology.

Miami University student-athletes finished the spring 2016 semester with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.21, the highest GPA ever for a single semester. Overall, nearly 40 percent (189 of 490) of the RedHawks finished with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and 38 of those student-athletes recorded a 4.0 GPA.
