Miami University RedHawk Amelia Strickler Qualifies for World University Games

2017 Jul 14

Miami University RedHawk Amelia Strickler is excelling at the international level.

Strickler took part in the British Track & Field Championships earlier this summer and turned in a solid second-place finish in the shot put, marking 16.59m (54-5 1/4). That performance earned her, who has dual citizenship from her mother, a spot in the World University Games for Great Britain in August.

"I am happy with my performance at the British Championships," Strickler said. "I was ranked second coming in and last year I only placed fourth. I missed out on first place by only a few centimeters, so I am a bit disappointed I couldn't find more there but next year the goal is gold. It's exciting to represent Great Britain the University Games and I'm really looking forward to the competition and my second opportunity to represent Great Britain."

She wrapped up her career with the Red & White in 2017 and placed 10th in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, capturing Second-Team All-America honors (her third All-American performance). She set the school record in the shot put both indoors (56-2) and outdoors (55-7) during her senior campaign.

The World University Games are slotted for Aug. 19-30 and take place in Taipei City, Taiwan.

Strickler earned a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Microbiology. She graduated during Miami's 2017 spring commencement.
