The Fulbright Commissions in the countries will review the finalists' applications where the final review will take place.

The finalists were chosen from nearly 9,500 other applicants for the 1,800 Fulbright Awards. There were 18 applicants from Miami.

Final decisions will be announced between March and June.

With at least one recipient every year since 2005, Miami's five Fulbright finalists are contributing to a consistent institutional record of achievement with the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. In 2012, Miami produced the third largest number of Fulbright grantees among public universities in Ohio with four students and two alumni receiving English Teaching Assistantships (ETA). There were 4,491 ETA applications received that year; only 20 percent of applicants were funded nationally. Austria, Azerbaijan, Germany (2), Mongolia and Russia are the countries where Miami's 2012 Fulbright grantees are currently based.

The Fulbright Program has provided almost 310,000 participants with the opportunity to study, teach, research, exchange ideas and help in finding solutions to international concerns. The program is sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to create a mutual understanding between the people of United States and other countries.
