2017 Jun 19

Batavia, Ohio, resident Kaitlin Shurts from Miami University's Project Dragonfly has published an original article titled "Assessing and Overcoming the Barriers Impeding Inquiry Based Education" in Ohio Journal of Teacher Education, a publication that provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas concerning the improvement of teaching and teacher education.

In the article Shurts assesses the relationship between teachers' conceptions of inquiry and the number of perceived inquiry barriers.

Shurts, a biology and anatomy teacher at Amelia High School, is a graduate of Miami University through Project Dragonfly's Global Field Program (GFP). As a student in the GFP, Shurts traveled to Baja, Costa Rica and Belize, while also conducting projects that have made a difference in the Batavia area.

The GFP master's degree and Earth Expeditions courses are designed for educators and other professionals from all disciplines and settings interested in making a difference in human and ecological communities. Applicants can be from anywhere in the United States or abroad.
