2017 Jun 19

Dolton, Ill., resident Jennifer Rydzewski from Miami University's Project Dragonfly has published an original article titled "lxodes scapularis and Borrelia burgdorferi among diverse habitats within a natural area in east-central Illinois" in Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases, a peer-reviewed journal providing basic and applied research on diseases transmitted to humans by invertebrate vectors or non-human vertebrates.

In the article Rydzewski evaluated habitat diversity and temporal changes of tick vector occurrence and Lyme disease infection in Illinois.

Rydzewski, a naturalist at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, is a graduate of Miami University through Project Dragonfly's Global Field Program (GFP). As a student in the GFP, Rydzewski traveled to Baja, Borneo and Kenya, while also conducting projects that have made a difference in the Dolton area.

The GFP master's degree and Earth Expeditions courses are designed for educators and other professionals from all disciplines and settings interested in making a difference in human and ecological communities. Applicants can be from anywhere in the United States or abroad.
