Jared Collins fosters community change through collaborative leadership endeavor

2014 Jul 17

Goshen, Ind. (46526) resident Jared Collins, a graduate student in the Global Field Program (GFP) from Miami University's Project Dragonfly, was awarded a Leadership badge from the university for demonstrating collaborative leadership skills that have helped bring about positive change in his community.

Through his Leadership in Science Inquiry course project entitled "Michiana Biodiversity Conservation Initiative Summer 2014 BioBlitz," Collins conducted a rapid biological assessment along the banks of a river in order to generate baseline biological data to better inform park management decisions and promote public education concerning local natural systems and conservation issues. Collins is a librarian at Goshen Public Library.

The GFP master's degree is designed for educators and other professionals from all disciplines and settings who are interested in inquiry-driven education, environmental stewardship and global understanding. Applicants can be from anywhere in the United States or abroad. To learn more about the GFP, visit http://gfp.miamioh.edu.
