Fiorella Gardella receives master's degree from Miami University through Project Dragonfly

Costa Mesa, Calif. (92627) resident Fiorella Gardella will graduate with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in the biological sciences from Miami University in May 2014, as a member of the most recent class of graduates from the Global Field Program.

Gardella is an environmental educator at Surfaid International.

Since joining the master's program in 2011, Gardella has explored conservation and education in Baja, Amazon and Kenya, while also conducting projects that have made a difference in the Costa Mesa area.

The Global Field Program (GFP) from Miami University's Project Dragonfly brings together graduate students, scientists, educators and community leaders at key conservation sites across the globe for firsthand experience with inquiry-driven education, environmental stewardship and global understanding.

The global courses, which count toward the GFP master's or can be taken for graduate credit, are designed for educators and other professionals from all disciplines and settings interested in making a difference in human and ecological communities. Students in the program reside throughout the United States and abroad.

Project Dragonfly reaches millions of people each year through inquiry-driven learning media, public exhibits and graduate programs worldwide. Since 2004 Dragonfly's global courses have engaged more than 1,500 people in firsthand educational and scientific research at critical conservation field sites in Africa, Australia, Asia and the Americas. Dragonfly is based in the biology department at Miami University, a state university in Oxford, Ohio. Miami was established in 1809 and is listed as one of the eight original Public Ivies.
