Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, resident Elaine Lum has been awarded the Jose I. Pareja-Wendy P. Tori Global Conservation & Field Scholarship of $250 from Drs. Jose I. Pareja and Wendy P. Tori in collaboration with Miami University's Project Dragonfly.

Lum, who was accepted into the Global Field Program (GFP) in 2014, has studied conservation research on the Baja peninsula as part of Project Dragonfly's Earth Expeditions programs. This summer Lum will study what it takes to save species in the wild and engage with local partners developing and testing site-specific methods of community engagement to sustain ecological and social health in Hawai'i. Lum is a teacher for Burnaby Community and Continuing Education.

Drs. Jose I. Pareja and Wendy P. Tori, in collaboration with Miami's Project Dragonfly, has awarded six partial scholarships since 2013.

About the Scholarship

Dr. Jose I. Pareja, a native of Peru, is one of Dragonfly’s founding GFP team members. Pareja is currently the director of Wildman Library and is Science and Technology Learning Specialist at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. Pareja earned his Ph.D., M.S. and M.Ed. from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Dr. Wendy P. Tori, also a Peru native, is assistant professor of biology at Earlham. Tori earned her Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, and her B.S. from the Universidad Agraria La Malina.
